Sophisticated Ladies
String Quartet
På Svenska Tack!

| Once upon a time there was a group of girls, talented
young musicians, who didn't want to go straight from the
academy to the concert hall with it's conventional
repertoire. Actually, the string quartet Sophisticated Ladies appeared for the first time in Gugges Ballroom in Stockholm, where a hard-core jazz audience were treated to the unexpected pleasure of hearing classical music while Gugge and his guys collected themselves in the interval. The idea was a hit, and inspired the girls to try their hand at jazz and rock, as well as the classics of Mozart, Sibelius and Brahms. Over the years this superb quartet has developed into one of Sweden's most demanded ensembles. Their breakthrough into the popular public eye came in 1986, after an appearance in the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest final. Since then their TV performances have been legion, including the memorial concert for assasinated prime minister, Olof Palme. Sophisticated Ladies have recorded three cds, toured Sweden many times, and performed in the country's premiere concert venues with artists such as Ingvar Wixell, Barbara Hendricks and Staffan Scheja. Sophisticated Ladies is a string quartet that knows no limits. They have toured with great success in England, France and China. Wherever they play, the audience enjoys a performance where talent, joyful and characterful music making stands on foundation of sound musical experience.
