[Ogier] The Parasha project

The Parasha project is a group reading of TWoT together with discussion on rasfwr-j. Every week two or three chapters are read, and they are discussed the following week. Anyone who is interested is welcome to participate.

It started in november 1998, and so far people have trudged through TEotW and TGH, and are working on TDR. I'm not connected to the project anymore, but JJVORS" (Warning! Large graphics!) has taken over the coordinating. Check his page for the current schedule.

The "rules"

The subject line should start with "PARASHA:", and also contain the book name and chapter numbers (prologue and epilogue are P and E respectively), eg:

PARASHA: Ishamael's Healing (TEotW P-2)

If the subject tagging doesn't work (ie people doesn't use the tagging or general book/tangential discussion creep into PARASHA-marked subjects) then this will likely be unworkable on rasfwr-j and we'll move over to a mailing list that Devin Ganger has offered to set up.

The schedule for TEotW

The following is the schedule I made for TEotW. I went for about two chapters a week, with three in the case of short chapters except in the end. Using my Orbit pb, this means that there'll be less than 40 pages most weeks and in no case more than 45. That way we can start TGH this side of 2000...

Discussion about the new chapters start every Monday with a break for the holidays, and the relevant chapters are read the week before. The schedule below shows the days discussion start, ie when you should be finished with the given chapters.

What does Parasha mean?

It's Hebrew for "section" or "portion" and is used for the weekly portion of the Torah (the first five books of the Bible) read in Synagogue in the Jewish Saturday morning service.
