Swedish Darkfriend Social

Stockholm - March 15, 1997

This summary was originally written by Bo Lindbergh, but I've edited in my own comments (given in "[ ]").

Met at the bookstore.

[Sans Oskar and Otto, the fickle ones. Present were Fredrik Strandberg and Patrik Montgomery, besides Bo and me.]

Perused the antiquarian shelves.

[We also checked the current sale, without finding anything interesting. Had a discussion whether or not we should buy Stone of Tears and make a ritual burning of it, but decided against it since noone had brought a camera.]

Annotated various DKS covers.

["You see that golden-haired girl on the cover?"
"Yes."
"She has black hair in the book."]

Relocated to the Indian restaurant.

[Called Maharajah.]

Had dinner.

[Discussed what local TWoT food which would correspond to Indian food.

Discussed the Swedish translation of Lord Foul's Bane.

Discussed where all the other Swedish darkfriend's were, and why so few showed up this time, or showed interest.

Discussed what BSE more or less translates to ("brain sickness in cows that makes the brain look like a sponge").]

Noticed black car with license plates reading "JSN 249" and speculated on the possibility of the Novak having traded in one of his black helicopters [TANBH] for a car.

[Speculation whether or not Novak had been cloned was though avoided, by silent and mutual consent.]

Found a bar and yakked for an hour.

[Topics included memories from military service, a future all-European DFS, where all the posters in Europe were, and the murky origins of Usenet and the Cabal.]

Went to a nearby cinema but failed to agree on what film to see.

[The 75% majority went to a not-so-nearby cinema and saw Michael Collins. Subjective as hell, but very good. Or as Fredrik said: "I'd rather see that one twice instead of Ransom once."]

The dissident 25% departed to write this report.

[After the movie we split up again. Fredrik departed in a hurry to catch his last commuter train home, while Patrik decided he would sleep at my place, so we made a detour using the underground to fetch his things before heading home.

All in all, at least I enjoyed myself.

Some quotes out of context:

"We shouldn't stand here. People might think we wants to buy Terry Brooks."
"This looks like some cinema room."
"That 'horse' looks like a cross between an ardenner and a bulldog."
"The best quote in A Crown of Swords: 'Is there any way to make sure she knows it's me?'"
"I got a letter about voluntary NCO training. It was such a feeling throwing it in the bin and ignoring it."]
